  • Insufficent disk space error on batch capture

Posted by Buglight on January 31, 2006 at 4:25 pm

I’m trying to batch capture a 3 minute HDCAM clip (Kona2 1080i 8-bit Uncompressed) and I keep getting the error: “Insufficient disk space remaining in the Capture Scratch” When I check my Scratch disk free space it says 314.8 GB which should be more than enough for a 3 minute clip. I can however capture now with no problems. Any thoughts?

    FCP 5.04
    4GB RAM
    OS 10.3.9
    Dual 2.5
    Kona 2 with Kbox
    Huge Fibre Channel 4105 1.2Tb (Raid3)
    Sony HDW-2000

Well, how large is the total size of your drive? If you are below the minimum 20% of available space, you’ll get that message. And also…. FCP does a poor job of estimating drive space. I use IMX and HDV and its estimates the capture at about 5 to 6 times the actual amount.

The total size of the drive is 1.2Tb. It’s in Raid 3 so that brings the capacity down to 930Gb. I have tried a batch with the DVCPro HD settings and it does work. I guess FCP is looking for WAY more drive space than it needs to do the batch for 1080i uncompressed. I wish there was a setting to change that because it now means I need to manually capture each clip, what a waste of time.

Check the timecode in’s and outs on your logged clip. I suspec that at the begining or end of the clip there is a TC that was incorrectly logged, thus making the duration seem much long. FCP is just doing the math bu=y looking atht ecodec and the clip duration.
