installing tiger and fcp 5 isn’t always easy…
A note to those of you who are either considering this upgrade or are having problems doing the upgrade…
I have a dual 2k a system that was working fine with fcp 4.5. But i decided to buy the new suite and tiger. I installed tiger first, over panther and the os seemed fine. Then when I attempted to install fcp studio 5 I encountered errors on the second or third disc of the install.
I decidedt o do the more prudent thing and remove all my files from the g5 and to install tiger on a clean disc – i noted several useres on this forum espousing this approach. I then had problems with doing a clean install of tiger, the qt7 upgrade and the 4.1.1 update. When I could get a clean install of the operating system I was still getting errors at the same point in the fcp install process. This was maddening.
I finally found an apple tech who passed on some good information:
1) Prior to installing tiger run the disc utility ot check for any disc problems. It’s not in the instructions- but he said he’s run into several problems with discs that by being addressed first made tiger easier to install.
2) For those of you who have additional ram in your machine (most of us) and didn’t but it from apple – remove it before installing tiger and fcp5. I did this and the install went fine. I went on to put the ram back in after the install and it all works fine…
Also, the tech advised only upgrading the QT when you are offered update choices. Do not install 4.1.1 or itunes or a dvd update. You can go to apple and get the pro apps patch and install it after installing fcp.
Hope these tips are helpful.
