    Why is this an issue???
Because if you are sharing projects with other people that have only Motion1 then there might be a problem.
I’d like to be able to test the compatibility beteween versions but now I have to reinstall on another partition.
By the way same goes for FCP5 , FCP 4.5 is now gone!!

    1. Apple and Adobe video products have NEVER been forward compatibility. In other words… you can open and OLD project and promote it to new.. but not go backwards.

    2. If you change the name of the app (liek Final cut Pro 4_5 or Motion 1 (or move them out of the Apps folder) they won’t get blown away

    Richard,

The post was a warning as well as a gripe.

I’m not asking for backward compatibility, I’d just like to test files and have both programs incase one of my clients doesn’t feel like upgrading.
And by the way FCP 3 to FCP4 upgrade didn’t blow away the older program just as I still have AE 5 and 6 as well as 6.5 just in case I need to work with older files and don’t want to “upgrade” the project!
Oh yea a warning or OPTION to keep the old program would have been nice, They do that with the operating system!

Also there is a document called Important Installation Considerations here that talks about it.

Not exactly on the front page, or even in the “Installing your software” pamphlet.

I guess Apple is thinking like

    ‘Whizzo Chocolate Company”
“If we put that on the box our sales would plummet”
