    Hello,

I had a “NFR” version of final cut and recently purchased the newest version of FCP studio 5.1. Now when I install, it still refers to and opens up the “NFR” version that I uninstalled. I am completely frustrated and I imagine it is something extremely simple. Can anyone help me in this area? I am using an intel mac and have checked that it is a universal version that I am installing.

Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,

If you are opening it from the dock, the alias is still referencing the NFR application. Look in the Applications folder and see if there are multiple versions of FCP. You might be opening up the old one. Find the old one and delete it and replace the icon on the dock with the new version.

Your best bet is to probably just to delete anything that says final cut pro in a finder search and reinstall.

Make sure you trash these found in the SYSTEM/LIBRARY/PREFERENCES as well as the User FCP prefs.
    com.apple.RegFinalCutStudio.plist
    com.apple.RegFinalCutPro.plist

This is the old registration information that it is accessing. Once you trash the prefs I would restart and hold the SHIFT key until the Mac boots into OS X “Safe Mode”. Run DISK UTILITY and repair permissions on the system drive. Empty any trash upon completion of repair using FINDER/SECURE EMPTY TRASH. Re-boot. All should be normal.
