Installing FC Studio 2 in a digital arts lab
Hello,
I need to ungrade Final Cut Pro 5 to Final Cut Studio 2 on 22 G5s in a digital arts lab. Is there a easy way to do the install without having to swap disks on each machine. We have Apple Remote Desktop, can it be used for this install?
I have been told one way to speed up the process is to copy all the install disks to a Firewire drive and then install from the drive.
The lab machines are Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 running Mac OS X (10.4.9).

You could install on one computer, then clone the system drive from that machine to a firewire drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, then clone that drive to all other machines. I’m not certain exactly how the serial numbers would work though. You might call Apple Educational and ask them about that.

We do it by pushing a disk image to all the computers off a drive. If you have an academic multi-seat license then they can all have the same serial number.

There seem to be problems with the FCS GM install, especially Motion3. Doing a complete reinstall, OS, Quicktime etc might get round the problem/s, at this stage we don’t know exactly what is happening.
I am going to do a complete wipe & the above and see if the slowdowns I’m experiencing go away.

“Speed it up” is unlikely. Most of the wonks will have you reinitializing the drives, reinstalling the OS and all applications.
This apparently has unpredictably wonderful benefits in a lab situation where the act of resetting the systems back to zero is worth the time and effort in avoiding unknowable future problems.bogiesan

That’s how we do it too… each semester we rebuild about 65 bays or so.. So it’s 3 times a year for us at least.
