  • Installing Blackmagic card in current project?

Posted by Robert Buncher on March 28, 2012 at 3:47 pm

I am currently in the middle of a project in PPro CS5. I am working on a MacPro. I am thinking of buying and installing a Blackmagic Decklink SDI card so that I can hook up a grading monitor and some scopes for grading.

I have an idea that it is probably not good to mess with the computer setup in the middle of a project. And that it might not be possible to just switch over to a Blackmagic sequence to allow output of the timeline.

Does anyone have experience with this?

If it is possible to install the BM card in the middle of a project, would I have to render out the project and then import into a new project in order to use a Blackmagic sequence?

    Thanks,
    Bob

    that shouldn’t be a problem.

changing something mid project is risky, but this is
pretty low risk. even less risky if you clone your system
drive first then install the card (you can always go back if for some unknown reason you have major issues)

just make a new sequence with black-magic as the sequence and copy
your timeline into that new sequence.

I always set my black magic sequence with 10-bit uncompressed preview
then change the codec to ProRes. All your renders will be ProRes.
(if you have final cut studio installed on the same mac machine)

it works. I’ve done it several times.
