    That’d be great.
Also, I’ve been editing footage out of my Canon XH-A1 in a cineform codec.
Once I upgrade to Vegas 12 on a different machine, do I need to transcode the HDV footage into the cineform codec to edit it? What do you think?
I know HDV is on its way out, but I still have the cam to play with, so I’ll need to edit stuff out of it.
I’ve vaguely heard somewhere that now with Vegas 12 and a computer like the one you built for yourself, transcoding to cineform might be a thing of the past?
    Thanks
    Philippe

If you upgrade to a modern Core i7 Quad or Hex computer I don’t see any need to transcode HDV to CineForm. HDV should edit very smoothly on it’s own.

Yes. I haven’t used CineForm for HDV in quite some time.

Great, so for archiving and keeping master copies, what do you advise? The Avid Codec, Cineform or something else?

I archive all of my original footage in the original format (i.e., HDV). I see no need to use another format. It is the highest quality you’ll ever have.

Since QuickTime is not a native PC format, I personally would not use Avid DNxHD as a PC user for archiving. There is no telling how/if QuickTime will work in the future. If I have a need to make a master copy that other formats are derived from I would use CineForm.
