I keep reading that people are installing both 8.0c and 8.1 on their 64bit systems. I can’t get 8.0c to install on the 64 bit computer. It keeps asking for a keygen, but the keygen doesn’t match up with the keygen that came with my Vegas Pro software. When I try to install my original Vegas Pro disk, my 64 bit machine says the software is not compatible. How are you guys getting Vegas 32 bit on the 64 bit machines?

Vegas does not, and never has used a keygen. Only pirateware uses a keygen in regard to Sony software.

I tried to install Vegas Pro on the 64 bit machine, but it didn’t work. So I then downloaded 8.0c and tried to install it. At that point it prompted me for a keygen. I guess you can’t just install 8.0c since it’s an upgrade. That is what I did. I do own Vegas Pro. My question remains the same, can you install Vegas Pro 8 (original 32bit program) on a 64bit machine. I have read that people have done it, and I was wondering how to do it myself…

    Yes, you can.
Vegas does not, never has, and likely never will use a keygen system.
Maybe we’re talking semantics, but there is a registration code which you can access via your account on the Sonycreativesoftware.com pages. It’s there 24/7 with your original registration information and registration codes.
If you’re using illegal software, it may be that it won’t allow the install.

You are right. I meant serial number…keygen is something different. I still cannot install Vegas 32 bit on my 64 bit system. I keep getting a prompt error that says software is incompatible. So when I tried to just install Vegas 8.0c upgrade by itself, it asked for a different serial number than the one I have…

    Hi Jason,

Douglas tried to give you the solution. Let me reiterate it step by step:

    1. Go to the Sony site and logon to your account and get the serial number that has been assigned to you with you purchased Vegas Pro 8.0.
    2. While at the Sony site, download and install the latest version of Sony Vegas Pro 8.0c (just to be sure your copy isn’t corrupt)
    3. Run Vegas Pro and when prompted for a serial number, supply the number that you got at the Sony site in step 1

That’s it. If the serial number doesn’t work, call Sony tech support and they will help you. Registration support is free so just call the 800 number. I have installed Vegas Pro 8.0c on Vista 64 without any problems at all so I know it works.

John, I keep getting this error….

Setup has detected that this computer does not meet the requirements to isntall this software. These requirements must be met before you can install Microsoft.net framework 3.0 X86
    Only x86 Platforms are supported.

    I am using XP 64 bit. Oh well…I tried….

OK… well XP64 is your problem. I thought you were talking about Vista 64. You might want to go to the Microsoft site and see if they have a version of .Net Framework 3.0 that runs on XP64. Then install it yourself and try the Vegas install again.

It worked! Thanks John. I’ll tell you what, next time I ask a question, how about I give all the details up front, instead of staggered! This site rocks!

Excellent! I’m glad you got it working. Hey it’s a give and take… our first questions should have been XP64 or Vista64? But next time, you can bet I’ll ask. 😉
