Install Mountain Lion on new second internal drive
Hi All,
I just removed a bad hard drive from my Mac Pro, and I installed a new drive. What I’d like to do on this drive is run mountain lion on it. (My start-up drive the first drive has 10.6.8 on it). I’m running Final Cut Pro 7.03 on that drive. Here are my questions:
1. Can I just download mountain lion from Apple and install that on the second drive? Then download and install FCP X on that second drive?
2. Do I need to install 10.6.8 first on the new second drive first then upgrade to Mountain lion?

Hi Greg,
1- Yes and be sure that you are booted up on the ML disk before downloading and installing FCPX.
2- No and if you did it would technically be an “upgrade install” instead of a “clean install”
But before installing Mountain Lion from the App Store download, I’d recommend at least copying the installer to another drive. That way you won’t have to download it again if you need to install it on another Mac. The App store Mountain Lion installer will delete itself after installation.
