Install FCS 3.0 on the new Mini Server?
I would like to get another computer only to offload some rendering and compression. I thought the new Mac mini servers look great (as I can also use its email, file and podcasting services). However, the apple website states that “integrated Intel graphics processors not supported”. Has anyone had any experience trying to install onto a mini? I assume that Color and Motion would not run, but that would be all right with me.
I want to be able to open a finished final cut document and render the timeline. Then send the final video to compressor and have QMaster manage the renders.

Mac MINI Servers? There is only one Apple product that is a server, the XServe.
If you are talking about the MacMINI, then you can install FCP yes, and Compressor, yes. But they will not compress quickly…QMaster won’t really come into play…you need quad or octo cores for that to really work.

QMaster works with other macs on the network as well. It can detect what family & speed of processor each computer has and split the files accordingly.
So is there anyone with a successful experience in installing FCS 3 on any Mac mini?

In one of yje COW magazines they talked about a kind of render-farm made out MacMoni.
Was to process something really big (don’t remember what).
It ended being the value. The cheapest’ Rendering Power’ per Money.

The New Mac Mini “Server” that was announced last month should theoretically support the current FCS since they upgraded the graphics card to the Nvidia 9400m and should work fine as a render machine. However I don’t think you would need to purchase the server option on the Mini. If you would turn file sharing on in your system preferences and hook into your main computer via GigE from the Mini you should be able to use this as a rendering station. There’s a lot more to it than that but yes the new Mac Mini’s should be able to support FCS.
