I am trying to insert a segement back into a master.
I have marked in/out points, chosen “in to out” in the “Mastering Settings”
The segment duration is 8 sec 9 frames but FCP says
“the deck may be unable to perform this operation since
the edit duration is only one frame”
I am using Mac Pro 2 x Dual Core Xeon 2.66GHz,
Blackmagic DeckLink HD Extreme (PCI-e Version)
    editing to Digibeta DVW A500P.
    Any thoughts ?

Trash the FCP’s preferences and POA Cache.
Relaunch FCP and give it a try…

“in to out” in Mastering settings is not what you want.

go to the main, “video” page,
at the top, change “mastering” to “Editing”
set in and out points in the edit to tape window,
and an in point in your source sequence.

    load sequence into viewer,
then drag to “insert” in ETT window.

    should work.

    cheers,

Thanks for the quick reply Stuart and Nick.
I trashed the preferences, then followed Nick’s instructions….
now the digibeta cues, pre rolls, goes into record…but
for only 1 or two frames. Does this make any sense ?

Insert won’t work if you have marked an in or out point during a transition like a dissolve. Also if the points are in a gap between clips, insert slug. The insert needs to be marked in and out on clips.

Strangely FCP tells you the edit can only be one frame, but it really indicates that the in/ out points aren’t valid.

You’re not going mad – I’ve had this ‘bug’ on numerous occasions. Changing the edit point was the only solution on occasions.
