I am trying to make a dvd of a project I just edited and rendered on Sony Vegas 8. But in DVD Architect I cannot seem to locate the media to burn a dvd. In DVD Architect when I do a search for the document name and try to open it, I get an error message that says “The selected file is not of the required type”. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

Make sure you render using the DVD architect template in Vegas and then render your audio separately. MPEG 2 is the standard..

    Sorry I was a bit rushed…
You want the Main Concept MPGEG-2 file type and use the DVD architect NTSC Video stream to render your video. You will have to render the audio using the AC-3 format and give it the same name as the video rendered file. Be sure to locate both files in the same location so when you import the media the audio will also follow without having to locate it. If you import other file types Architect will have to render them again to the MPEG 2 format along with the audio. Hope this helps…

Thanks for the response. I rendered the whole thing using NTSC DV template. I didn’t see any that specifically said “DVD Architect”. How do I render the video and audio separately? I was able to to the project file in DVD architect but when it came time to render/burn to dvd it said the project was too big for the media. Not sure why as the project is 1 hr/54 minutes and the disc holds 2 hours.

[dave croonprince] “Not sure why as the project is 1 hr/54 minutes and the disc holds 2 hours.”

Just because DVDs claim to hold up to 2 hr. doesn’t mean that you don’t have more work to do 🙂
Joe gave you the file formats to render to but, as your source file is almost 2 hr., you need to use a bitrate calculator to come up with the proper encoding settings and then customize them.
This is done by clicking the “Custom” button next to the “Custom” box when you’re doing the MPEG-2 render.
After you do this, click the “Video” tab and enter the following numbers.
    For CBR: 4,600,000
    For VBR: 8,000,000 / 4,600,000 / 2,800,000

I’ve discussed this extensively here so do a search on my name and “bitrate” for more info.

To render the audio simply select the file type I mentioned and it will render only the audio portion. Just be sure to give it the same name as the video clip.
