    Park the cursor at the desired point and go Insert – Time.
    Enter the desired amount of time into the box that comes up.
    Double-click the blank space to highlight it. This is done to avoid having overlaps because the default time was too long.
    Drop desired event into that space.

    how about between multiple clips in one hit? script maybe?

    Yes, a script could be used to insert an image between multiple clips already on the timeline. I don’t know of a script that does that, though.
