Something I’m really confused about is how insert edits work in Avid. I have come from FC where when you use an insert edit, say to move a clip from later in the timeline to earlier on v1, it moves any clips on the tracks above also, keeping v2,v3 etc. in sync with v1.
Avid doesn’t do this. Even with the sync locks on if you have a clip on v2 in a certain place and you move a v1 clip back using splice in, it leaves the v2 track clips alone, knocking them out of sync. This can’t be right can it?

    – mark in to out on the clip you want to move on the timeline.
    – press alt + c to copy it to the source window
    – press x to delete the clip from the timeline
    – then insert it to it’s new place with the sync locks on

that will do what you want to do.

You can actually save a step if you press ALT+X instead of C. It will combine step 2 and 3 in the process outlined above.

and FYI, ALT+Z will Lift it and place it in the Source monitor
