September 8, 2005 at 5:23 pmOkay I see what you arre saying. I mean are you placing the sequence onto a blacked tape, therefore you need to insert? Or, are you placing the sequence or part of the sequence onto the tap at a secific point?

September 8, 2005 at 6:29 pmI’ve already printed the half-hour show on tape, using the mastering tool. There’s a 5 second audio static problem half-way through the show. I need to do an 2 channel audio insert edit for that duration to fix the problem, instead of re-printing the entire show.

September 8, 2005 at 6:47 pmI don’t think we know what kind of gear you have.
How is the deck CONTROL connected to the Mac?
How are the deck’s VIDEO and AUDIO INPUTs connected from the Mac? -

September 8, 2005 at 7:01 pmI’ll ignore the nasty comments since I can see you’re fed-up and apologised already…
I have had this problem (1 frame duration) repeatedly when trying to insert edit with either the in or out point on a transition – whether it’s been rendered or not.
Try setting your in and out points on the timeline on clear pieces of footage or slug or a cut without transition. The in and out point must not be on a transition.
Works for me every time.

September 9, 2005 at 7:22 pmMy FCP is in a G5 with an AJA Kona card. I’ve got the AJA k-box to connect to my SP deck, using a RS422 cable.

September 9, 2005 at 8:15 pmMy in / outs weren’t on transitions. Thanks, thought.
I actually made some headway. My sequence was using the MPeg 4 codec. I tried a test sequence using the DV 48kz preset, and am now able to make VIDEO inserts. I stress video, because for some reason, it won’t work for audio. I’ve tried VA1A2, and simply A1A2, and nothing. Strange.
As for the video, I ocasionally get a black frame added (as a bonus, I guess) at the end of my edit, making the insert a completely useless cut at times.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

September 12, 2005 at 4:31 amThe black frame at the end of the insert edit is misleading – the problem is at the start of the insert. The FCP sequence starts playing one frame too early, before the edit deck is in record mode. When it reaches the end, it’s played out what it needed to play and then goes to black. The deck still records that frame. The reason it sometimes starts early could be that you need to tell FCP to start half a frame later.
Try:
Go into your deck dontrol presets and duplicate your main deck control preset ( NTSC or PAL). Try changing your playback offset and test it by recording BITC to tape. There’s a timecode filter you can apply to slug for that.
