  • insert edit to DV tape / is it possible with PPro 1.5?

Hi all. I’ve been asked to “patch” a charity’s video programme, supplied to me as a master miniDV – and I can’t see a way to export to tape using insert edit (to a Sony DSR 25).

The export to tape function lists an “assemble at timecode” option – which I’m reading as an assemble edit, not an insert edit?

Am I missing something obvious? Or will I have to re-lay the whole programme to tape ..? Or is a third-party plug-in needed for insert editing on DV / DVCAM …?

    Thanks !

I used the ‘export to tape’ option just the other day to insert edit onto a tape….(it was DigiBeta). I selected the ‘insert option’ on the first screen, then entered the timecode number on the second screen. It did a sucessful insert edit at that timecode…not an assemble. I would recommend doing a test first though, just in case it acts differently on a MiniDV.

    Hi Matt

    Thanks for the thought.

I guess you must have a machine control plugin (maybe supplied with a capture card?) to be running a digibeta recorder from PPro? With the DVCAM machine here there is only one screen following the export to tape option. For Decklink (Extreme) projects, exporting to tape with Decklink deck control allows a choice of assemble or insert edit / track selection, but firewire control of the DVCAM does not.

For my current little issue, it looks like the DVCAM DSR 25 will not support insert editing in miniDV mode, so for this job I’ve output the whole programme to a new tape.

When I get a moment I’ll run a test or two to see how the “assemble at timecode” option functions on DVCAM …

Perhaps it would be easier (and safer) to capture everything, make the changes, and then save the whole lot out to a new tape? Dodgy to rely on frame accurate inserts on a master tape even if you crack the technique.
