insert edit HDCAM 23.98 -> 59.94
Hello, I was wondering how to go upon inserting an edit onto an HDcam tape. I understand how to do it from a 23.98 project to a 23.98 hdcam tape but I’m having trouble figuring out how to do it from a 23.98 project to a 59.94 tape.
My workflow is to set easy setup to blackmagic HDTV 23.98 -> 59.94i then change the device settings in edit to tape to 1080i 59.94. All while in the 23.98 project.
Sometimes the playback fails and I want to pickup the playback from the nearest commercial black. How would I go upon doing this?
the reason im confused is because the project timecode ( 23.98 ) varies from the tape timecode (59.94) so i’m unsure where to put the in/out points on the timeline as well as the in/out points on the hdcam. any help would be appreciated, thanks

Can’t do it with any frame accuracy guarantee, unfortunately. Due to the conversion, you can’t be exact frame to frame. I’ve had success only in outputting full acts. The start will lock, and the output goes into the black, so I’m fine.

is it possible it’s my blackmagic card acting up? is it possible to reset the card or something along those lines

NO…it’s an issue with insert editing and mixed frame rates. Always problematic when converting 23.98 to 29.97 upon output. Insert Editing rarely works out right…thus why I either need to redo whole tape, or from the head of an act to an act break, where there’s black to cover my butt.
