Hi. I’m new to FCP and have a question.

Sometimes my clients want me to include material they have on DVD as part of my editing project.

Is there a way to do this internally using the DVD player in the Mac Pro?

If not I will need to input audio and video from a DVD player. Do I do this through my AJA io HD?

What kind of audio/video file useable on the timeline does FCP create from this DVD input?

    Thank you.

Hi..thanks for the links. As I said I’m new to FCP so I still don’t quite understand how to get the audio/video off the DVD disc and onto the FCP timeline (or into a bin for subclipping)

    Download M-peg Streamclip converter.
Purchase and download Quicktime M-peg 2 playback.
The Squared5 website should have instructions all over it for converting video and audio files from many sources, including DVDs, to various formats, like Quicktime Movie files.

Following the instructions, you would import the relevant video and/or audio files from the DVD disc into the Streamclip converter, choose the format you wish to output to – which in this case would be Quicktime Movie – and start the conversion process. When it’s done you will have a Quicktime Movie file of the DVD video which is obviously compatible with Final Cut.
