    Hi all,

I quite often see this particular effect in motion graphic reels and such but don’t know the name of it or the name of the plugin creating it. The effect is commonly applied to text or flat stills and shows pictures or words being formed through a sandy/smokey/inky process. Kinda like something dissolving but in reverse. Would love to know the name of this neat effect.

    Here’s an example:

Much appreciated if someone could name this plugin for me. I’m keen on using it for future projects.

    Thanks in advance.

there are a bunch of ways to create this effect from using displacement and blur to using particle systems. Typically particle systems create smoke from text, and people then reverse the footage and play it backwards to make the smoke create the text. AFX’s built in particle systems can be used as well as Trapcode Particular. I believe there is a tutorial in the Cow’s AFX tutorial section called text to smoke which should get you started.

    Best of luck
