    hi all,
i would very appreciate if you could help me on this
i have a scene in which an ink drop falls on a blank paper and
while it diffuses on paper it forms the texts and visuals. i have a
footage of black ink diffusing on white background, however when i use
this footage as a luma matte, it only masks the text and visuals layer, i
would like to achieve something like every letter spreads its ink to
its surroundigs after being created (i mean an ink flow on unprinted areas of the page). Is there a way to achieve this in aftereffects?

    thanks

i’m a little unclear on what you exacttly want to do…

if you need to reverse your matte, you can use the inverted matte option from the track matte puldown, so the text is revealed by the ink spots.

if you want to use the text as the matte, so the ink fills in the letters (which may be nearly the same effect as above) place your text above the ink layer and set the ink layer to use the text as a alpha track matte.

if you want the edges of the letters to ‘spread’ as ink might do, you can use the simple choker effect, and animate the choke into negative numbers.

you could do the same effect on the ink spot if that need to continue to spread, to fill the screen perhaps.

this is what i want to do but negative choker numbers (max -10 i guess) doesn’t look like a spread. am i missing something?

sorry, you will need to set the text as the alpha track matte, or, pre-comp your text with the ink spot track matte applied then animate the choke on that pre-comp.

In addition to the simple Choker, you may consider using Roughen Edges and Minimax to Erdode/ dilate parts of your art. for more organic “Flow” also consider morphing by means of Reshape or Revision FX’ RE:Flex suite.
