i am working on a project that the client has just requested the “ink splatter” effect (i.e. the eminem ipod ad). does anyone have experience shooting mattes for this? what liquids and techniques should i use. while i’m at it i will probably shoot some other mattes; does anyone have advice on pouring liquids together in an aquarium, i have heard this is a useful technique. thanks!

    1. Take a look here.

    2. Look in the COW Archives. This questions comes every 2 or 3 weeks.

This is a stock photo site that I like to use from time to time. They have a huge list of photos that require nothing more than your registration. There are literally 20 or more ink spatter pictures at pretty high resolution.

once you have the image, for sxu what do you do with it to make it animate like the ipod commercial. I could think of one way with masks, but how would it look realisitic. thanks

Do you have a link to the tv spot?
I made some nice mattes with positioning the camera under a large glass bowl. Then I dripped tint into it. Another experiment was shooting from above, positioning the light under the bowl, fill it with water, stirr and drip tint in that….
    Good luck!
