i followed a tutorial by jayse hansen where he explained how to do the organic growing text using the write-on effect. i’m using the effect on a picture that i have segmented out, but i would rather get the effect of ink blots spilling like in the gnarls barkley vid for crazy.

does anyone know how to do that?

thanks a lot, sorry if this is a repost. i couldn’t find anything on in here.

Also, check out Riot Gear from http://www.VideoCopilot.net which has a some really great ink splatter videos.

ya, i saw that first tutorial before and it’s not quite what i’m trying to do, the second video is very interesting, but you need to buy their plug ins to make it work… maybe i’ll end up buying, but only if i can’t figure it out on my own.

try animating simple choker on a keyed inkblot to get the spreading effect…

if that is successful, then using it as a trackmatte for footage or other textures, or the reverse, using the footage or textures as trackmattes for the inkblot will probably go a long way to creating the effect used in the video… throwing the mirror effect on an adjustment layer at the top of the comp should work for the ‘fold’.

you should be able to see the video here, for anyone who would like to see it… it is a pretty cool effect.
