    Hey All,

I’m starting a feature on Monday and they will be shooting on the Sony F3 using a Gemini 4:4:4 recorder. I’m pretty sure that the Gemini can only record Uncompressed DPX files. If so, how would I go about transcoding the DPX files for an offline edit in Pro Res LT?

I’ve heard of some people using Color to transcode the DPX to ProRes??
    What’s the best option here?

    Thanks Much!

The Gemini does indeed record DPX files.
Color does offer native support for DPX files – there is a workflow for DPX listed in the Color manual. You can render out ProRes files from Color.
Another alternative is to use Glue Tools who make a plug-in that allows you to work with DPX files .
    https://www.gluetools.com/products_dpx.html I think its about $400

There may be other alternatives I am sure someone will chime in with more knowledge.

    best wishes

    Thanks for confirming!

Color seems to be the best option.

    Best,

    Hello Taylor,

Depending on what software you already have you may not need to transcode to ProRes,

Since many NLE’s natively support DPX such as Color and After Effects,

Here is a link to our Post Workflow Section, specifying everyone who supports DPX files,
    https://convergent-design.com/Products/Gemini444/PostWorkflow.aspx

Also if you have Cineform, it can direct encode to ProRes, if you choose to go that route,

Also feel free to contact us directly about any workflow question’s.
