Ingesting P2 metadata to FCP 6
Posted by Dan Mills on October 10, 2007 at 8:06 pmI recently upgraded to Final Cut Studio 2. in FCS 1, with FCP 5.0.4, it was easy to import P2 metadata and convert to quicktime movie files. I watched Shane’s video on the subject – it was just what I was doing.
But there isn’t a import option for Panasonic P2 in FCP6. And I cannot figure out how to ingest these files and/or convert them to quicktime files that Final Cut 6 can work with.
Anyone have any answers?
Thanks in advance,

October 10, 2007 at 8:11 pmI GOTTA update that…
In FCP 5.1 and higher, the option is called LOG AND TRANSFER…and it is just in the main FILE menu…no longer in the IMPORT sub menu.

October 10, 2007 at 8:18 pmYa know – I thought it would be something simple and that I was just missing it – and true enough.
Thanks so much – working like a charm!

October 11, 2007 at 6:35 amoh, by the way, kind of a letter to apple:
it took me 30 min to track down how to do this via the help menu. if you go to the general help field, its not listed/mentioned.talked about in the ENTIRE basic help menu, and only after looking through every search result for p2 did i discover I had to go to a seperate help pdf, and only after searching through close to 100 links did I GIVE UP and look at the menus again and found ‘log and transfer’ which I looked at and thought to my self ‘this is new’ and clicked it.
Also didn’t see this listed ANY WHERE on the apple site of new changes.

October 11, 2007 at 12:12 pmWell, I guess I don’t feel like such an idiot. I was looking in the help files for almost an hour without success. I figured it had to be pretty simple – but without knowing, I was wandering in circles.
So, yes – Apple – how ’bout a little documentation when you change something?
Thanks again, Shane – for getting me this answer so quickly. This forum is one of my most important work tools!

DITTO!! I thought I had lost my mind when a help search produced nothing when searching “Log and Transfer” the name of the stinking tool!!!! 🙂
Im a bit new to P2 and since there is no documentation I’m guess when you Add a selection to the Queue it starts copying to the capture scratch folder FCP is currently set to, is this correct?
Secondly, Does anyone know what Log & Transfer is looking for when you get the error message –
“roll_x” has an invalid directory structure. Plesae choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media.
