Ingesting footage and batch renaming
Posted by Mark Dagostino on August 15, 2024 at 3:28 pmI stopped using Prelude a while back because it was buggy. How do you all ingest your footage from media cards, batch rename and add metadata? Thank you.

August 15, 2024 at 5:45 pmHello Mark!
When it comes to ingesting footage, I usually follow one of two paths depending on my workflow: I either use Media Encoder or Premiere Pro directly. Each has its benefits depending on the specific needs of the project.
For batch renaming, I haven’t felt the need to do it lately, but when I do, I use a free app for Mac called NameChanger.
As for adding metadata, I typically import the files into Premiere Pro. You can manage metadata in a few ways:
- Metadata Panel: You can enter or edit metadata here once your clips are imported.
Project Panel or Subfolders: In the list view, you can activate the metadata criteria you need by right-clicking on the column headers. This allows you to view and edit the relevant metadata directly in the Project Panel or any subfolder.
If you need any additional explanation, I’ll be glad to help you.Best,
Ivan

August 15, 2024 at 8:00 pmThanks, Ivan. When Prelude work it was elegant in that it batch renamed and allowed user-generated metadata fields.

August 15, 2024 at 10:31 pmHey Mark,
I never used Prelude, as most of my projects have been limited to short-form, or long-form with contineous inteview rushes (1 for each camera).
Have you looked at Adobe Bridge?

Might be able to do something similar to Prelude.
There are other options out there, some which is tied in to Storage systems and/or Cloud services.

August 18, 2024 at 12:54 pmThanks, Mads. I tried Bridge years ago when it first came out. Prelude at the time was far simpler and a very efficient way to batch rename and create customized metadata fields all I. One program. There was no reason to get a third party program or use the more time-consuming metadata window in premiere. I wonder why they gave up on such a useful program.
