I am working in 10.0.6 and – for the first time when using FCP X – needing to use the audio channel configuration tool.

I have successfully ingested DVCPRO HD files from a P2 card disk image. My audio in the field was the HPX-171 onboard stereo mic and an external mono mic, all recorded to P2 – so three of the four channels in the camera files have useful audio.

I brought in the files using auto-detect stereo, and disable empty channel. The first two shots were before I connected the external mic and have come in as a1a2 stereo (the onboard). However all subsequent shots have come in as three mono – a1 is the external, and a2a3 are the onboard mic.

I need to be able to make a2a3 into stereo. From the timeline the only options are to have all four channels (one empty) as mono, or have FCP X assign a1a2 and a3a4 as stereo pairs. There is no “manual” option to assign a2a3 as stereo. Am I missing something? The only workaround is to pan all clips a2 left and a3 right, which I really don’t want to do!

    Can anyone advise?
