“Sometimes GOD closes doors to keep us Moving Forward.” – anon

I’ve used NewBlueFX in Movie Studio and Vegas Pro for years. Nice and Simple!

BUT, now it looks like child’s play compared to modern CGI 3D graphics like Industrial Light & Magic’s openEXR motion tracking…

Million Dollar graphics for FREE? You bet! Software like Bender.org renders openEXR formats, “used by ILM on all motion pictures currently in production” according to their website.

I like the way it looks but I have “No Clue” how to use it in video production ;-(

I can put the Grand Canyon behind talent walking in front for a green screen, so why not CGI?

Has anyone converted a 3D motion tracking to a video track? (ProRes, MP4, AVI, M2TS)

You don’t suppose they have a plug-in for Vegas Pro?

    Hi Jim

You may want to look into Hitfilm for your compositing needs. Hitfilm and Vegas have been integrated so that you can have access to the compositing features in Hitfilm (motion tracking, SFX, etc…)

Gary Rebholz (Vegas Guru) made a video about this in 2014. A little dated but still relevant.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Jkiso2FLnw

The beauty of this is that there is a free version of Hitfilm that should get you to places you haven’t gone before. Not to mention the added plugins you get in Vegas from installing Hitfilm Express. It opened up a whole new world of possibilities in my editing.

Granted, there is a leaning curve in order to ”get” Hitfilm but once you understand the workflow, you see that both software were made for each other.

    Cheers !

I would like to add one thing to Francois’s suggestion about HitFilm…..in addition to Gary Rebholz’s link above, there are a bunch of tutorials on Youtube to help get you started.

    Best Regards……George

Speaking of free software check out Gaea

    https://quadspinner.com/Gaea#home

It generates landscapes, which you can then get into blender and create a file you can open an utilize in hitfilm. 3 free programs working in tandem. I’m still trash with 3D models but I want to utilize this for background elements in compositions.

You are correct Paul, it is Blender.org – Maybe I had too many Margaritas last night? Was it a blender bender… Sorry, it’s the only reason I could come up with, for the error. Thanks!

Have you used Blender for 3D rendering? I found this great 3D news TV studio, https://www.pond5.com/3d-models/item/91443270-news-tv-studio

The 2D studios only let you shoot one camera shots and the graphics are not that great. The 3D stuff “Looks Real.”

I’m gearing up for on demand video production and it would cost me over $25K to build that Desk and Backdrop and it would not be portable. I need to go where the talent is because they are not coming to Davenport to be my host on the show 😉

Well Francois, I have tried HitFlim and found it to be like NewBlueFX. It’s nothing like a 3D graphic artist would use. I need to use ready made 3D renderings like this News TV studio, https://www.pond5.com/3d-models/item/91443270-news-tv-studio. The artist that created the 3D studio can customize it if that’s what I need.

    Hi Jim

Are you looking for something like this ?

    https://youtu.be/TwhjXnM5J4Q

I’ve put this together in less than 20 minutes using 3 different video sources plus the downloaded background. There are numerous places on the web where you can get these stock backgrounds for free. This is just one of them. That’s where I got the one above.

youtube.com/channel/UCcwCfzH2NUlg2WZP3u1IZkA/featured (I’ve got the second link like this because somehow, it just wont take)

    Cheers !

That’s what I’m working on Francois, except using multiple camera angles, like a real news show.

The link to the 3D graphics listed above, has a much higher resolution and picture detail. For $84 it’s a good deal.

Nice job putting together the video!

I couldn’t find any advanced 3D motion tracking YouTube videos Georg.

Most YouTube 3D graphic examples are not for Vegas software.

I know how to setup the shots for most news TV shows so I think I can match a static 3D prospective to the shot.

What I haven’t learned yet is how to motion track the 3D to the pans and zooms used in network news shows.

Maybe Blender 3D uses a 30 fps timeline to track motion so can align it to the news program in post?

Side Note: Nasty less than and greater than ascii keeps showing up while I write here. Once my whole message disappeared so I’m writing them in a email program and pasting them here. Odd…

    Hi Jim

If you are going the way of multi cam angles then, by all means, go with the Pro stuff. For your tracking needs, do try the Hitfilm option. I found it to be extremely precise (with the proper settings of course) and really affordable.

    Cheers !
