I work with a bunch of designers that create everything in InDesign (publishing house) and want me to use their creations in my FCP projects. What is the best way to get things to Photoshop and then FCP? Currently they are redesigning in Illustrator and then exporting Photoshop layers (with lots of complaining). Is there any way to skip the Illustrator step?

The other problem is they all use CS2 Design, and I’m on CS3 Production (without InDesign).

Sorry if this has been posted before, I have been searching but not finding any clear answers. I know the Mooovers at the Cow will know something.

    Thanks in advance.

It’s really up to your partners to figure this out. They have a workflow that is not video friendly and they’ve got to discover how to make it work.

If they are unable to do that, you have two choices:
    1. Invest in the software required (add AI and PS and ID)
    2. Invest in the training you will need to work in those applications.

You would open their ID projects yourself and create/extract what you need.

They can export to PDF easily enough and you can import the format with some restrictions.

The real problems come when their print pages simply do not translate to video and require reworking. That demands editable layers.
