  • Indesign Exporting PDF – Text Being separated despite individual text boxes.

Posted by Jeff Schultz on August 9, 2011 at 5:02 pm

I am exporting a job to be used as a template where customers can edit pictures and text. When I export the file it is randomly separating the text onto separate lines and I can’t figure out why?!?

I have each area of text in its own text box and even tried them on separate layers.

But when I export the PDF the text is separated

    Any Ideas?

This isn’t something that I typically need to accomplish, so I don’t have the exact answer. But I am wondering if you are using some custom tracking as then it would have to split up the text to maintain that spacing in the pdf.

Nope nothing unusual. Just straight text in a text box.

I asked around on another forum, and they said INDD tries to get the spacing correct via kerning, and that causes the separated text.

I guess I have to switch it all the Illustrator and use it that way.

Maybe trying switching between optical and metric kerning.
