  • Increasing Render to Ram Size?

Posted by Will Stanton on January 20, 2011 at 4:11 am

I use the render to ram feature and looping (selection, q, shift+b)to preview transistions and effects. Is there a setting that allows me to increase the amount of ram that vegas uses. (the preview is maxed out to 1024). I still have spare ram left over and would buy even more if this setting can be increased.

No there is no way to increase this. On my workstation Vegas allows me to allocate up to 7GB of memory for RAM preview.

I assume you are using a 32-bit operating system in which case you don’t have any RAM let over because 32-bit applications are limited to 2GB of RAM total regardless of how much physical memory is in the machine. The solution is to use a 64-bit OS and the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro so that all of your memory can be used.

You need to also be using the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro. That’s the only way to see more than 2GB of memory in Vegas.

Ok I had installed sony vegas pro 10 off the cd into windows 7/64.

The program resides in ..\Program Files (x86)…this, I have been told, means that I am running the 64-bit version of vegas.

Using Help, About does not give me any clue (V10, build 179).

So, where would the setting for size of temporary rendering ram be?

Yes, but this is the folder where the 64-bit version of Windows stores 32-bit programs.

That’s the 32-bit version. My version says, “Version 10.0c (Build 470) 64-bit”. If yours doesn’t say 64-bit… you are using the 32-bit version.

First install the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro 10c. Then look in Options | Preferences… | Video under Dynamic RAM Preview max (MB).
