Hi. I have just upgraded from my old Socket 478 system to an Intel Core 2 Duo system which I have built myself. It’s undoubted that the increase in performance is vast but there is 1 issue that concerns me.

With a 2.80 GHz CPU I am frustrated that if I fire up Task Manager (I’m using Win Xp Pro SP3 still) it shows that Premiere is still using 100% of the processor. I’m really not that technical when it comes to hardware but what I really need to be doing is multi-tasking, ie. working on a part of a movie while Adobe Media Encoder is rendering a file, etc. I found that with my old system that if i tried to do anything at the same time as using PP that it was impossible. Does the 2 core thing mean that it is like 2 separate processors, so even if PP uses 100% there’s still 100% of the other 1 available for other programs? That’s trying to put it in layman’s terms.

I hope to be able to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit soon, but I can’t quite afford that at the moment.

2 core doesn’t mean u have 2 separate processor and when 1 is available for u, at 100% usage it uses both the core of your processor but still u can run other app smoothly

Each core is a separate CPU. Realize, however, that very few programs are written to truly take advantage of multiple CPUs. You can also click on the Performance tab in the Task Manager. In the CPU usage history, you will see a separate window for each CPU.

Thanks. I never realised that about Task Manager.
