I am trying to gradually increase the playback speed of a clip from 50% to 100%, but I can’t figure out how to do it. When I try time remapping, I can get the clip to start slow, but it ends up playing in fast motion. I don’t know or care how long the resulting clip will be, I just want it to gradually increase the playback speed so that it ends playing at normal speed. Can someone tell me how to achieve this? Similarly, how can I gradually slow the playback of a clip from normal speed to half speed?

When you turn on time reamp, there are two keyframes. This creates a linear, real time flow for your clip to replicate normal 100% speed. So first, preserve this where you want 100 percent.

Say you want the last 20% of the clip to be 100% speed. add a keyframe on the last 20% mark. Select the last two keys (the new one and the last one). And move them later in time so that the first 80% plays slow. If you render this, the clip will play slow at a a steady speed, then when it hits the middle keyframe, it will play normal speed. So now, select the middle keyframe and using animation assistant, set it to ease in. So that there is a smooth curve going into this. Try rendering this. You may want to tweak the curve a little to your liking.

Don’t use ease-in, it will make the speed come to a complete halt just before running at 100%, because an ease-in has a speed-value of 0% and an influence of 33%

instead, Alt-double-click on the keyframe and enter the settings incoming velocity: 1sec / sec, influence 33% this will give the smoothest transition, but there will be variable speeds in the 50% section
Or, select the keyframe and change it’s temporal interpolation to autobezier.

Be sure to twirl open the speed graph to see what happens in either scenario.

Ah, yes. Ease in would have flat tangents. Well that’s what I get for not testing before posting.
