  • Include Shot/Take column from FCP Browser in EDL?

Posted by Chris Munch on December 8, 2010 at 5:15 am

Just cut a Red feature in FCP 7.0.3. Instead of using, as I should have, one of the exportable “Master Comment” columns in the browser to log shot/take data, I used instead the column called “Shot/Take”. Is there any way to export this column with the EDL? I can’t think of any way other than manually to re-enter each shot/take’s data into one of the Master Comment columns. Sound editor needs to cross-reference R3D file names (which were exported with OMF) with shot/take. Thanks for any advice.

In principle it ought to be possible to export a sequence as an XML and change the headers so that what’s marked as Shot/Take becomes Master Comments 1 then import that and make the EDL, but I don’t know an XML editor that would do that easily for you.

Otherwise, if you move the columns in your browser so that one you can put in the EDL is next to the one you’ve got the information on, you could copy and paste the information clip by clip, tedious but you’d get there eventually. Good luck.
