inability to play sound file in Premier Pro
I have the Sony DCR-403E DVD handy cam and I want to edit the footages I shoot in Premier Pro 1.5. As far as concern the video it works fine but as far as concern the sound I just can get it work. I have tried to import the vob file directly from the disc (after finalization) but in Premier when I import it, I see two tracks (video and sound), the sound doesn’t play, can’t hear anything. The sound track is visible but there is no waveform in it as normally happens with a sound file imported in the timeline. I have tried to import the vob file using DVD decrypter first but I get the same problem. I used also the mpeg-vcr application to demultiplex the vob file and I exported it as a mpg file (video and audio). Still in premier the tracks as separated, recognized as video and audio in the timeline but no waveform is visible, no sound is heard. I have the main concept plug-in for Premier Pro 1.5 installed and I tried this in DV premier project and DVD main concept project as well. But no difference, the sound doesn’t play. Any ideas what may be the problem?

The audio is probably Dolby and not editable.
Best solution for editing DVD footage is to use an analog/digital converter to capture the video and audio as digital. ADS Pyro A/V Link for less than $200 will work fine. -
Thanx for the info and your suggestion. I was thinking however, is there a utility that would convert my mpa audio file to wav so that it becomes editable? In windows movie maker for istance, I can import the mpa audio file and convert it nice and smoothly in wma format but unformtunately it doesn’t solve my problem as wma is the only format I can export and it clearly lacks the quality of the original mpa file.
