  • In Log mode – want to change resolution before Capture

    Hi All,

    I’m on a Media Composer V 2.1.9.

I want to do a very simple task. I mistakenly logged my clips at DV 25..but want a different resolution before I capture. Called Avid Support..and are getting the NO CAN DO message.
Could this be True ??- with this simple change before I Batch Capture. (It’s an easy fix with other systems).

    Please Help.

    Thank You,
    Karen

Depends on your settings. If you go to your settings tab and open up Capture Settings and go to Batch you can choose whether or not you Capture at the resolution logged (it will say “Use video compression logged for each clip”). If this is checked, uncheck it.

If it’s not checked just set your resolution to whatever you want in the Capture Tool and Batch Capture. Otherwise, uncheck this setting, set the resolution (in the Capture Tool) to whatever you want and Batch Capture. I can’t imagine why Avid would tell you it can’t be done. Unless I’m really wrong.

Perhaps Avid thought you were meaning you had already captured at DV25 and wanted to transcode to a higher resolution. This you can do, but you won’t see an improvement in your video. You’ll still have the same compression, just a bigger file.

    TaDa!

    Great..Thank you.

I was clear with the avid support guy that I had logged – not captured – and wanted to change my settings prior to capture..
I knew there was something wrong when he suggested I capture and transcode from DV 25..

I guess not pickins are slim in the work pool these days.

Also – when I went to the help guide there was no info I could find. Some Help Guide!

Hence, the Cow. Always go to the Help guide first and, if that fails you, come to the Cow. The grass is green and delicious, the sun is always shining, and you can typically get great advice from top professionals for free! The folks here have saved me a lot of heartache many, many, many times.
