    Hey COW people,

I’m an intermediate with AE 7, but as far as rendering goes I’m as novice as they come. I have an assignment due on Monday and for it I’ve done an 11 minute AE video consiting only of narration (MP3, no effects within AE), pictures and text. I’m using Shine and Starglow in my title animation too, if it helps at all.

I have a 2.4GHz P4 with 1GB of ram (which after perusing for a while around here, I know isn’t much) and a GeForce FX5200 128MB gfx card. As I said, the composition is done, but the render is stuffing up every time. It’s rendered in QT Sorenson 3 and QT DV-PAL (a hefty 2.4GB for 11 minutes), but everytime I render I get the same clicks and pops in the audio and the quality of the effects isn’t very desirable.

Guys, I hate to put you under strain to answer this but I am running out of time. I love this program, it is the only thing that causes me happiness apart from my girl but we’ll leave that alone because it’s not the time nor the place, so I need some expert help.

I’m wanting to render this so it’s ready to go straight to DVD. That I can do myself.

P.S. if it’s possible, I’m without broadband and a computer apart from this one at school which actually allows me to use the COW, but only through a web-based proxy. The lengths I’ve had to go to to get your wonderful site to work, you have no idea. I’d like if possible for you to email me your responses to brett.halliday@minlatonds.sa.edu.au. I’m putting a lot of trust in you, please do right by me. I will put notification on this for my Gmail, but Gmail is difficult to access here.

P.P.S. I always turn off Frame Blending and Motion Blur because these slow me to a crawl, on the best of days. Please tell me if there isn’t any practical way of fixing this, I have a lo-fi version that looks dreadful but will have to do. 110MB.

    Regards,
    Brett Halliday

From my little experience witn AE I can only help you for the pops and click part.
Use wav instead of mp3, just convert your mp3 to wave load the audio in AE and the clicks should disappear in the final render. AE doesn’t like compressed audio like mp3.

Well you say the qulity of the effects is not good… do they look good when rampreviewing but not when rendered ?

Anyway, you should hold down shift while going into your preferences->General prefs,
then you’ll see a new option in your prefs-dropdownmenu: the secret preferences.

Set the Purge every 0 frames to Purge every 10 frames.

in essence, After Effects is now just rendering every frame, and then doesn’t cache it, leaving more RAM to work with, but also having to redo all calculations should it encounter the same frame somewhere down the road.

    COW people,

I am very proud to say that you’ve helped me complete my first 11 minute After Effects composition. It is proudly rendered in MPEG2-DVD for ease of use with Encore DVD, of which before this assignment I had no idea what it did.

Thank you so much for helping, this site is by far the friendliest community forum I have EVER been to and I will stay on as a proud member of the COW because I want to expand my knowledge of this wonderful program.

I’m thinking about forking out for the Boris Continuum and Graffiti plugins, they look wonderful. I have a demo of 3D Invigorator, but I didn’t find it very satisfying.

    Thank you all again!
