I am looking to do some more advanced 3D camera effects inside of after effects. I want to have an in depth scene where there are many levels of static objects and animated ones as well. They will start small in the background until the camera comes up to them and “fly’s by” them. I know how to do the effect but I am looking for some guidance on keeping the edges sharp as using that many vectorized layers would seem to cause some RAM usage issues.

Since the camera does a fly by of these objects and comes very close then they should be vectorized correct? or just high res? Should I create my animated elements separate then render them with an alpha to import into the camera comp? Should I not even use after effects for the camera work but a 3D program instead? etc. . .

I’m sure you’re familiar with the effect I am on about as it can be seen in many broadcast graphics. This question is not in reference to a particular project I am working on, just sharping skills during down time.

Any tips & tricks would be great or links to tutorials about some advanced 3D camera work.

    Cheers, Matt

Use a BoxBlur to help lessen aliasing issues when the camera is zooming pass a layer. That’s the most productive way to get around. Besides, that’s how things really look in reality, as you speed past an object – well, it does to me. 😉
