In previous versions of Vegas, I could play a clip in the trimmer with my fingers on the In and Out buttons. Once I hit Out, it would set the end point AND select the region between In and Out, all while the clip was still playing. In Vegas 12, if I hit the Out while the clip plays, it sets the point but does not select the region in between. I have to stop playback, THEN hit Out for it to select the region. Is there an option setting I need to toggle or is this just how it works in v12? It was SO much more convenient the old way.

Erin, unless I have misunderstood you, I’m not able to repro. Meaning VP12 is working the same as it still does – just checked – in VP11.

    Grazie

I have never understood the purpose of the trimmer when it’s so easy to just reduce the size of an event by moving the edge of it on the timeline. If the answer is that it’s more accurate, enlarging the timeline will fit that bill.

Your video shows how I expect it to work. However, when I hit Out in Vegas 12, it sets the end point but does not select the area in between (the blue shaded area between in and out). The only way it selects the area in between is if I stop playback then press Out, which is far less convenient. I use the I and O keys, I don’t click the interface button.

It almost seems like there is a setting someplace that needs to be changed. If I can find time today, I’ll take a video of it.

This shows what’s happening – out point set, no selected region.

[Roger Bansemer] “I have never understood the purpose of the trimmer . .. “

If you are asking(?), the purpose of the Trimmer is to consider editing away from the Timeline; making an ongoing narrative flow without the need to trip up what is already there; allow for “fills” that can occur and make changes without disrupting an already working storyline.

Yes, yes it is. This is not what I use the Trimmer for.
