In After Effect rendering – do I need to stretch HD footage?
Posted by Mandyyjobs on August 6, 2006 at 5:53 pmWhen I was looking at the rendering settings for AE, I noticed that I could stretch footage (radio button). If the footage is already HD, do I need to do this?

August 6, 2006 at 7:28 pmStretching makes the rendered movie larger than the composition that is being rendered.
If your composition is HD, and you want your rendered movie to be exactly the same size as your composition, you do not need to use the stretch function.

August 6, 2006 at 7:35 pmOk, using 6.5 – can I render HD? (I hope I don’t have to upgrade to 7.0 right now). I can’t really find the settings for it under composition settings…

August 6, 2006 at 9:09 pmIt depends on which flavour of HD you want. 1080i or 720p? HDV? DVCPROHD? Where is your render going?
If you can’t answer those questions, I have to ask why you want to render in HD.

August 6, 2006 at 11:34 pmIt is from a FX1 – the render is going to DVD but being shown on an HD projector. In AE, I can’t remember seeing setting for anything but DVCpro or something – I am not sure if that will work with the FX1…
Thanks for the quick response -

August 7, 2006 at 12:33 amDVD is SD and not HD. Unless you have a Blu-Ray or HDVD burner and media then your DVD signal will be SD. Currently broadcasters are the only ones delivering HD content to your TV through cable or dish. Maybe you mean 16:9 WIDESCREEN SD as opposed to 4:3 SD?

August 7, 2006 at 1:25 amYes, you are right. I guess is has to be SD. So what do I set the composition settings to?

August 7, 2006 at 3:17 amUse the DV-NTSC preset for North America/Japan or DV-PAL preset for Europe.
