Improve Flesh Tones
Posted by Mark Prebonich on May 22, 2011 at 8:15 pmIn a video of my daughter’s dance recital, the flesh tones are very bright (too white) and washed out. I would like to make this more realistic, warm, and not so harsh. How am I able do this for just the bright skin tones? Thanks.

May 22, 2011 at 8:30 pmMark, I’m not sure if this tip (grabbed it from another forum some time ago) will work with your version of Vegas but it’s worth a try.
Put 3 filters, a “Invert” (at 100%), “Color Corrector”, “Invert” (at 100%).
Then lift up the gamma of the color corrector in the middle.
This darkens highlights first, in the logarithmic fashion, more like a “iris closing” way.
You can also put a color corrector secondary to select reds and lower the gamma a bit.
Dark or bright may also have to add or remove a bit of saturation on the color corrector filter. -

May 22, 2011 at 8:40 pmWow, that response was very fast. I have Vegas Pro 10d. I’ll give it a whirl and get back with the results. Thank you for the input.

May 22, 2011 at 10:26 pmThe secondary color corrector worked best. I was able to adjust the washed out bright skin colors to a more realistic flesh tone. Now, what is proper FX in order to make the bright colors darker without darkening the entire video? Things are definitely looking much better. I appreciate the assistance. Thanks.
