why is it taking 2 hours for me to export 5 mins of film with no effects?

sure im compressing it according to ken stones recomendations for youtube, in fcp4
from 720×480 to 640×480, from 29.97 fps to 30, at high quality, prepared for internet streaming with a compressed header, at mp4 audio better quality, 128khz, 44.1 and stereo,

    heres my computer specs.

    Machine Name: PowerBook G4 15″
    Machine Model: PowerBook3,5
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 133 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.5.3f2

update i just realized one of my ram slots must be bad, both ram sticks work, i tested them, but one of the slots are bad,im no longer running 1gb memory, but rather 512mb,

does this have anything to do with my slow exporting speeds?

[andy shnikes] “does this have anything to do with my slow exporting speeds?”

FCP should have at least 1GB of RAM to run properly so that’s definitely have some affect, not a whole lot really, but some. But you have a very slow system, and a slow version of FCP. That equals slow export times.

Also, you should not be using FCP to do this compression, you should be using Compressor if it came with that version of FCP.

FCP 6 and the entire Studio 2 suite is much faster at everything than FCP 4 and of course it goes without saying that the current lineup of computers are much faster at everything.

Those specs are a bit whack….

    Simply Export a QuickTime Movie….

Then open it in QuickTime Pro and export the standard iPod preset which is fine for You Tube
