    hello,
I’m newly shooting with PanasonicDVX100B and editing with FCP5. I’m shooting in the 24p mode with the camera but do not know the proper presets for the import and the sequence. Just trying to take full advantage of the 24p and make sure I’m doing right before I get to deep into the edit. Anything will help.
    Thanks a million, drew.

Great article. Will explain in a big way the differences between 24p and 24pA.

Since you shot in 24p your goal should have been to get a ‘film look’ for 30fps televisions. With that in mind, the DVX saved the images to your camera in 29.97 fps with a pulldown cadence of 2:3:2:3. This is a standard cadence for broadcast in the NTSC world.

So — your capture AND your sequence settings should reflect 29.97 and go from there. If what you really wanted was 24 frames per second film out then you probably should have shot in 24pA. But G’s article will explain all that too.

    Good luck,

[Dave LaRonde] “I submit that you can save yourself a lot of grief by forgetting about 24p and simply adjusting your camera to shoot 30p, and I would defy you to notice the difference.”

Just my own person observation. Given the choice, I like the look of 24p over 30p, though I like 60p the most. Details, sharpness and overall image quality, for my own personal taste, is most impressive at 60. It’s just got that “in your face this is high definition” quality.

But between 24 and 30 (I edit with both) I’ll take the look of 24. It’s softer than 30, but I like that softer look if I’m going for that “film style” type of look.
