I’m evaluating the FCPX trial. Are there any export options without having to also buy compressor?

I know it’s not a good idea but this is for quick turn around news – simple cuts only then exporting out to QT H264 file for upload:
Can I create a folder on a separate hard drive connected to a MBP (2010) and set up a project but not have to copy video files (AVCHD from Sony NX5U) from the SD card to the hard drive (GRaid mini via FW800)? I know I can do this on my Edius workstation.

The SD card (45MB/s) is connected to a card reader and that is plugged into the express card slot. The card i have (Sonnet SDXC UHS_I Pro) does not use the slower USB bus but the the faster bus – I forget the name of it.

    Thanks.
