  • Importing xml into FCP 7.0.3 gets “critical error”

Posted by Mads Astrup on September 14, 2011 at 10:11 pm

    Hi,

I am trying to import a sequence xml files with subtitles into my FCP 7.0.3.

I got the file from a professional translation company. First of two files worked fine. The second was aborted due to “critical error”.

Do anybody has a way too solve the problem?

    Thx, MADS

Have them redo the third one and send again. Might have been an issue in the creation of that particular XML.

    Hi Shane,

I already did that, and it still does not work. Other suggestions?

Send as a different XML version? Instead of V5, how about v4? v3?

    Hi!

If you work in a Norwegian setting, some applications can create problems in the XML if there are character encoding mismatch. Characters like Æ, Ø and Å can be misinterperated if encoded otherwise, and create faulty XMLs. The character encoding should be UTF-8 through the whole workflow. Start by checking the first lines in the xml (read in a text editor) and look for “encoding”. Then check if there are language preferences in the subtitle generator.

There can also be isues with other special characters sneeking in to the subtitles.

    Hi Shane and Anders,

The company ended up sending six different files, and in the end it worked. Don’t know why.

@ Anders – the text was in english.

    Thx for taking your time.

    Regards Mads
