  • Importing XML from Davinci Resolve

Posted by Jordan Mena on April 10, 2013 at 11:18 pm

I did a grade for a half hour show in Resolve. When finished I did a FCP XML roudtrip for delivery. I decided to bring in my XML into FCPX to check before handing off to the client. I understand that FCPX doesn’t take regular XML as it has it’s own XML code. I ran my Resolve XML threw 7 to X generating an XML FCPX can see. It successfully created a new Event and a new Compound clip. I can see the clips in the event browser but when I open up the xml timeline I see the clips but most frames are black and when I try to skim through the timeline I get the spinning beach ball and FCPX crashes. Anyone experience this? Workaround or fix?

    thanks in advance, J

    Resolve has FCPX XML available.

    No reason to use 7toX.

Jeremy beat me to it… Also, probably no help, and this isn’t an RTFM post. 🙂 But… did you check the manual, it seems there are a few steps other than just exporting XML involved. Starts on page 565…

I know that Davinci has an xml export for FCPX, but my client is on Legacy. I was just trying to see if it worked. I will look at the manual. Thanks!

OK. This now makes more sense.

What format is your original material?

    What frame rate?

If you do use the FCPXML roundtrip function, does it work?

My material is Prores 422HQ 23.98. I used the FCPXML out of davinci, and with a little jimming I got it to open fine in FCPX. All good. Thanks!

What issues are you seeing exactly and what have you tried?

Resolve also has regular XML export. It’s near the bottom of the options. I use that a lot as I need to go to FCP 7 to convert the XML to work in Sequence CLip Reporter for clip reports.
