  • Importing .vob (DVD) files?

Posted by Cdmanproductions on January 19, 2006 at 11:48 am

most of the time i am able to import .vob (DVD) files, and it imports them just fine, video and audio. but recently it hasnt been importing the audio just the video, but i have a work around for that. its when just the video is recognized it seems to mess the video up.

for example, if i were to just play the video it plays normal, but when i jump around the video in vegas it seems to mess up. also when i do the work around to get the audio to import the video and audio are in sync but the audio is significantly longer in the part of the screen, i think its the timeline part of screen, but it plays fine if let i play from the beginning but as soon as i jump around video/audio it goes out of sync.

hopefully i explained the problem so everyone can understand, thanks

P.S. is there a program that will let me convert the dvd file to avi with out loosing any of the quality?

What version of Vegas are you using?

    What format is the audio?

If you’re using a version of Vegas prior to Vegas 6.0c and you’re tyring to import AC3 audio, it won’t read the audio. You’ll need to convert the audio into something Vegas can read.

If you have 6.0c, just do a File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc

well its vegas 6.0 (build 84), so i dont know if that 6.0c

the audio is ac3 but i already convert it so vegas can import it.

its really not the audio thats having the problem its the video. like i said in the previous post.

    thanks

Since 6.0c is build 153, I DO know it is not 6.0c. Go download the current version (It’s about 100Meg).

ok, i updated vegas to 6.0c and now it can import the .ac3 audio but, now the video and audio is messed up. even when i try to play the video/audio from the beginning it will play a part for about 20 seconds then jump to another part. it also does that when i jump around the video/audio maually. i downloaded gui4ffmpeg13 from videohelp.com and it does a really good job converting the dvd files to avi, but vegas wont allow me to import the video, just the audio.

the video i am trying to import is 20 mins long but vegas see’s it as a 1 1/2 – 2 min. video/audio file.

    thanks

One thing that I’ve found to work very well (and eliminates sync issues and the need to edit MPEG2):

Hook up the DVD player to a convertor (or deck in my case).

Connect the convertor to the computer via firewire.

Start a standard DV-AVI capture on the computer and press Play on the DVD player.

Is this the best way? Maybe, maybe not. However, it works.

i would buy a converter but i dont really have the funds to do that right now. im just trying to figure out why vegas is thinking that a 20 min. dvd file is a 1 1/2 min. dvd file. thanks
