    Hello
I received footage from a film maker that was shot using an XD HD Camera. It’s a quick time file,I’ve updated my quick time software. When I imported it into final cut, I could only hear the sound but could not see the images. can anyone help me?

Can it be opened in QuickTime? It sounds like you don’t have the codec installed. What was the specific camera?

Do you have the RAW clips from a card? Just QT movies stripped from the original source?

Helps to download the Freeware Sony has:

    Hope that helps you.

Jeff is right, make sure you have the Codec installed on your machine.

    Hi Jeff
Thanks for responding the file can be opened in quick time but I only hear the sounds and can’t see the image whenever it’s played. The camera used was a Sony XD Cam EX1

Annette, I know it’s a silly question: Do you have FCP installed on the system you’re looking at? If you don’t have the proapps, the XDCAM codecs aren’t on the system.

    Hi Jeff,
Iv’e got final cut express installed but not final cut pro. Would I need to install final cut pro in order to see the footage?

Yup, that’s the problem. The codec requires a license and FCE doesn’t have the license – FCP does.

You could find someone to convert it for you to FCP, you could try recording it into a camera/deck that FCE does communicate with (such as HDV).
