Hi, I’m trying to import video files to Premiere (mpg, avi divx etc). The video is imported fine, but there’s no audio to go along with it? How do I import the video’s sound?

    Much thanks

    You said…
    (mpg, avi divx etc)

DivX, mpg, etc. are delivery formats. Premiere is for editing, so your files should be in an editing format.
Unless you are working with DV or HD files, you should decompress all source materials to Uncompressed, or Compression: NONE.
I use AVS Video Converter to decompress AV files.

I’m trying to edit footage from my DV camera. When I capture it does it in MPG. What’s the best way to get these files into Premiere?

You can edit MPEG in Premiere, you may need to install Main Concept MPEG Pro, however.
I haven’t been happy with MPEG editing.

I would decompress the MPEGs before importing into Premiere.
I use AVS Video Converter to do this task. It can batch process, and even split files if they get to be too big, say over 2GB.

Decompress to ‘Uncompressed’, or Compressor: None, with PCM audio.

    Michael,

One of the most common project settings for editing DV is DV NTSC with 48000 Hz audio. Avoid MPEG and just import from DV tape via firewire as an AVI if you are on a PC. Does this make sense? Be sure your project settings are set correctly to get the best quality. Which version of Premiere are you using?

Thanks for the info, I’m using Premiere Pro CS3. I live in Australia if that makes any difference.
