Importing video setting automatically
hi,
When i get video files from the net they are with diferent codecs, frame rate, frame size…
you can wach them in quick time , and in FCP5.1 to, but when i put them in timeline
then i need to render them. (when i have no same video settings).
Is it posible that FCP 5.1 imports somehow the video settings automatically?
i know i can make it manualy but sometimes its hard to find right setting for it.

Nope you must convert then all to the same format before you bring them into FCP.
But your post poses some bigger issues.
Why are you editing video from the web?
Is it stick video that you purchased?Not only is any video on the web already highly compressed and vary undesirable to work with (you always wand to pull your footage from the highest quality source possible)
If the video was not purchased from a stock video site then legally you have no right to edit it because it douse not belong to you.

If you have the copyright to the material then surly you have access to the original masters, not just the highly compressed versions on the web that were never meant for editing.

One of the major features of FCP6 is the auto setting of the first clip you drop into a sequence. If they don’t match it will ask you if you want to change the timeline to match the clip. I love this feature! It will also playback mixed formats in the same sequence but enventually you will need to render.
One thing that was not answered is what formats are you downloading. If it is something like mpg or h264 they have to be rendered to an editing format.

If you work for the company I’d tell your bosses if they want thefinalvideo to even look halfway decent you need the source tapes for them or full-res QT files captured from thoe tapes. if you work the way you are now your workflow is going to be highly compressed file -> another compressed format for editing -> anothr highly compressed file. you’re lsoing quality at every stage. If the original is a youtube quality video or something the final piece is going ot look like utter trash.
Reminds me of clients who constantly insist that DVDs are a great format to edit from…..
