Importing Stills
Posted by Teerav on September 6, 2006 at 7:13 pmhi, when i import stills into FCP (such as a targa) if they are larger than 720×480 FCP automatically scales it to fit in the canvas window. when i try to scale it back up to 100, it gets really pixelated and looks horrible. any ideas anyone please?

September 6, 2006 at 7:22 pmTry rendering and see how it looks. You’ll notice the bright green render bar when you place those stills on the timeline.

September 6, 2006 at 7:26 pmlol, well thanks for the reply. i work in 8bit though so i render after everything i do. its as if FCP rasterizes the image after it scales it down to fit.

September 7, 2006 at 4:25 amWhat is the original resolution of the importing images? Are you applying any other effects or motion-tab transforms?
I’ve not see this in my historical doco edits – I’ve used up to 4K images and been able to scale them as needed up to 100% and still retained original res quality.

September 7, 2006 at 11:21 pmthe still was 1140×960, RGB targa w/alpha, 32bits. its very strange, when i import it and drag it to the timeline. the still fills the whole canvas. when i check the motion tab, the scale says 50. even after scaling it back to 100 and rendering(Everything) it still remains pixelated. i tried trashing the preferences, but that did nothing for it. looks like ill try a clean install

Are you looking at these stills on an external monitor? How about setting the CANVAS to 100%, instead of FIT TO WINDOW and then judging the picture? Never judge a picture by the canvas at fit to window…really the only way to see what it REALLY looks like is on the external monitor.
And what are your timeline settings? Not DV, I hope.
